January 2026 Sunshine, exploration and a return to basketball.

Jan 1, 2026 - Thursday a new year and a new game.  The kids all received some tiny Lego challenge games, with minimal pieces, build a such and such. 

Homeschool tech class.  My earbud case had been acting funny, so Finn and I opened it and resoldered the broken battery leads. Funny situation, I hadn't used a soldering iron in at least a year or two, then ended up with 3 projects in as many weeks. I won't always have a Finn to hold the needle nose pliers, maybe we need a soldering station. 

Jan 3 - Saturday, Hannah finished my birthday-Christmas-New Year present!  She crotched this scarf for me/us. 

Jan 8 - Thursday, Finn started his basketball season.  He played 2 games per week for the month of January.  He says he enjoyed it and wants to play again next season, but as I write it is April, and he hasn't dribbled a ball since the season ended. 

Jan 10 - Saturday. We used to have two Powerwheels cars.  One is fried and the other is getting too small for the twins, so Hannah and Finn took turns driving the 4 wheeler around the field.  I know we're late to the party in Blanding (9 year old drivers) but yikes, it is scary. 

Melissa finished her 2025 Granny Square book blanket.  She rested about a day, then started making hexagons for 2026 books!


Jan 11 - Sunday, Lindonopoly with the kids.  It was fun to share stories about some of the places with the kids... but also led to my realization that I didn't know much about many locations in my home town.  

Jan 17 - Saturday, the Bluff Balloon Festival!  We watched this balloon land, then helped pack it away. Looks like Grandma and Grandpa Workman enjoyed watching the youth work.  

Best part of packing, "sit down."

Jan 19 - Monday, Melissa and the kids spent several hours at Cottonwood Wash.  A nice sunny day playing with sand and ice. 


Jan 21 - Wednesday seasonal garage door decorations at Luanna Black's house.  Luanna's husband passed away and the kids have enjoyed decorating her door.  The winter theme is a snowman tooting out snowflakes with the caption, "Where snowflakes really come from."

Jan 24 - Saturday, wrapping up the month with a trip to the bowling alley.  Lily even started aiming her own ball this time... my how they grow up fast!

My Engagement Story

In order to tell the story of our engagement, I will have to first tell you the story of our first date. For those of you who don't know, Andy and I were set up on a blind date by my Aunt Mary and Uncle Fred (more Mary). We met on August 27th when he picked me up for our date. Andy was well prepared for our first date. He planned on going up to canyon for a picnic and walking around the falls. He even had picked up some yummy sandwiches, but I didn't know about that then. Well, it happened to be raining that day, so he gave me the option of going to this authentic pizza place. I chose that plan since it was raining. We went to the pizza place where I ate pizza with corn on it for my first time. After dinner he started driving me back home, and then he noticed that it had stopped raining. We had a "CRATER" honeymoon than you!

We stayed in Midway, UT for the first 2 nights of our honeymoon. Around our little Swiss get away, were all of these little crater pond things. You can see our little cottage in the background of this picture. On Monday we went to the Crater at Homestead. The water is warm and very blue. Many people go scuba diving here, but we just swam around. Ok, so I didn't swim too much. I more of just floated around. They make you wear a life jacket, which meant I got to just relax. I was so relaxed that I even look dead in this picture. We had a nice woman in a wheelchair take a picture of us. She took a lot more than one. She kept telling us to do something different. I decided not to put all of the pictures on here. She really wanted to take one of us in the tunnel. Here we are outside of the tunnel.
