March 14th On our way to Croughton Village, 70 minutes via the M40 or 8 hours via Auntie Mon.
This day out took us through some beautiful country and villages.
We spent a few hours at Windsor Castle.
The chapel on the grounds. Tours are provided by the Military Knights of Windsor (the Poor Knights), they are also buried around the outside of the chapel. They spend their days wandering the grounds of their future graves.
This little green Peugout popped out of a tiny garage built into the mound. I thought it was a pretty odd parking spot so I introduced myself to the driver and asked why she got to park there. She is the Governor's wife, his position is caretaker of the Castle and commander of the Military Knights of Windsor.
This is the Governor's door.
The Queen arrived while we were touring the castle, and the only way we knew was that they put up The Royal Standard (her flag) while we were inside.
At Windsor there were very few tourists around so we got a nice picture with this fine soldier. I was surprised how slender he is, even with two big wool coats on I am much broader through the shoulders and chest.
Cool art piece on the streets near the castle.
After Windsor Castle we headed to the University of Oxford. Don't Auntie Mon and I look silly with our map? Lost on our first day at University... I thought I was through with this after 4 years each at BYU and U of U.
There were giant painted gates all down the streets and Melissa loved how colorful they made the old stone walls.
The courtyard at Christ Church. We were ~2 minutes late for public entrance, but the security lady said we could take ONE PHOTO. This is what we ended up with.
It was a busy day of driving and chatting with Auntie Mon. It was fun!
