April 10th and 11th, Time to hit Moab!
James texted me to say his family was going to be in Moab for a few days and asked if we could join them for a few trails. Zoe, Melissa and I could not pass it up. We headed north after work Friday evening to meet them at Sand Flats for a night camping and a day 4 wheeling. Basically an 18 hour vacation.
Zoe and I started practicing our sand stone climbing during an attempted bathroom break about 20 minutes before Moab.
She enjoyed climbing, but wouldn't go to the bathroom.
We got to the camp ground after dark, set up our tent and talked with the family for a while. The night wasn't too bad, except that Zoe's shy bladder meant we had to get up 3 times to "try" to go to the bathroom. Oh, and I lost her one time... she ended up at the camp site across the trail.
Miles took Zoe and I exploring the next morning. We walked all around the camp site.
We even saw the majestic "Butt Cheek Mountain," which overlooked our campsite.
Pretty plant on our walk.
James' family has a Jeep Wagoneer that carried them all in relative luxury.
We rode the Rhino. It definitely couldn't climb the most technical obstacles, but Porcupine Rim Trail seemed to have easier detours for all the really difficult sections. We still had a lot of fun, bounced up a few tough sections, and were surprised at how well the Rhino performed.
James' kids each had a major meltdown during the day, but they were real troopers for the majority of the ride.
There were some cool views.
And while Melissa wasn't sure about it...
She decided the view was worth getting close to the cliff. Melissa was so tough this trip. She only got out of the Rhino once and walked up to cliffs and rode along drop-offs.
James' Jeep did really well. He took all the tough spots head on.
After several hours on the trail we got back to camp, just in time to break down the tent, say our good byes and move on to the next family get together. Adam and Jeanette for the weekend.
