March 2017 - The twins turn 1 and Uncle Jon becomes Groom Jon!

Melissa began the  month by demonstrating her sewing skills.  She turned one of my old shirts into a prototype sleep sack for Hannah.

Then we headed to the park! We try to take the kids to the park several times per week.  It is a 2 mile round trip walk and gives Zoe some exercise and Melissa and I time to talk about things.

This guy loves his sister!  Especially when she wasn't crawling or walking as well as him so he could catch her when she'd run away.

In March I was still working on little bits of the shop.  This project was adding an outside 30 AMP plug for the RV. I learned a lot. I hadn't ever installed a new breaker before and I got to design all the connections and bend the conduit too.

Off for an evening stroll 3/8/17

Dad found mention of a cave near Bluff, UT where the pioneers held dances and asked if we could find it. Well, we did (3/11/17) and we took the Lyman's with us.  Mason said his dad remembered going to dances in the cave when he was a teenager.  They would pack generators halfway up the climb, then run lights and sound into the cave.

It is just a couple minutes north of Bluff and requires a scramble up a poor trail.

Melissa didn't feel comfortable hiking up it with Finley so they stayed in the shade. She is the little white spot at the bottom left of the big rock.

She was smart not to come up.  Hannah and I slipped on the way down, I landed on my bum, but she didn't even seem to notice.  We all had a picnic in the shade before heading home.

3/17/17 on the trail again.  This time with the camper at Hovenweep National Monument. We arrived and set up the trailer in time to have lunch.

Then we hit the trail.  The kids sure don't like these backpacks very much.  They made it, but just barely and Hannah ended up needing me to carry her in my arms for the last 1/4 mile. We headed back to camp and put the kids down for a nap.  While they were napping a couple pulled in to the campsite next to us and set up their trailer.  Well, the kids woke up 45 minutes later and had a great round of screaming, eating rocks, wanting to crawl around but not being able to because of the gravel. The couple next door packed up and left.  We found them that evening while walking the campground.  They had moved about 10 spaces down.

The kids ate Dutch oven cooking for the first time.  We had BBQ pork and cornbread.  They had baby S'mores too (plain graham cracker), we had real ones after they went to bed.  The next morning we took the truck down some of the unimproved trails in to the more remote sites.  It was a lot of fun, Melissa was brave and suggested taking a secondary route home.  She thought it was a smooth straight shot, it wasn't. The kids slept well, they get sleepy on bumpy drives.

FIRST BIRTHDAY! Melissa made their 1st birthday cakes the night before.  The enjoyed frosting them so much that she decided she wanted a decorating kit.

We had a party for all our friends who helped us through the first year.  We invited people who babysat, helped at church, and continued to be our friends (despite our lame hangout availability).

Finley and all the ladies opening presents.

Hannah reminding us that 8 PM is her bedtime and we are currently getting close (7:51 PM)

The next weekend we headed north. Jon and his fiancé Belle decided to get married on Nana's birthday. Well, for years Grandad has been telling us that they don't need any stuff, just give them pictures for their birthdays.  So we got mom a Wi-Fi smart frame and connected all the kids to be able to send her updated pictures. Early celebration 3/29/17

3/30/17 I threw Jon a bachelor party and Melissa and sisters-in-law threw Belle a shower. We started with dinner at Malawi pizza in Provo, UT.  It was good and I guess they send money to Malawi, Africa.

Then laser tag at the Provo Town Centre mall.  Some of us then headed to Nickel City (nickel arcade) to play video games.

We helped setup for the wedding 3/31/17 and once it was time we got dressed up at took some early pictures.

Not the bouquet, just a flower ball.

Longing to be outside. Not sure why we didn't have a better picture of the wedding, but they did it.  Jon and Belle got married!
