June 2017, The 6 year itch, separate vacations.

June started out a perfectly peaceful month. Bright red blooms on this desert plant in our yard. Yellow butterflies spreading pollen.

A neighborhood party in the Lyman's sandbox. On summer break, it doesn't matter the age difference, kids are kids.

Riding ponies and tipping back the bottle.  Life seemed calm and fun. Bright long days and great weather.

Then, something changed. Suddenly Dad was gone and in his place, Nana and Grandad. Toy garages and snuggles in Lindon.

Smiles in the sun with Nana, but no Dad.

Because he was in Boston, eating famous food, enjoying American history, and learning about opioids.

I had that roasted pepper burger at Bartley's Gourmet Burgers.  It was delicious, but no Melissa in sight.

Then time for cannoli at Mike's Pastry, or half a dozen.

Delicious, and they kept well for a couple of days.

All the while, Hannah and Finn at Nana's house with Mom, wondering why Dad isn't around.

Sure, Melissa tried to fill their days with other family. A visit to pinch Great Grandma Clift's cheeks helped a little. Great Grandma Clift was visiting at Aunt Mary's

And snuggles and milk help too. Great grandma was visiting Aunt Mary for a few weeks while Great grandpa was recovering from breaking his hip.

Funny hats! (A pea pod, from the twin's baby shower)

Davey-ina Crockett, queen of the wild frontier.

And a multitasking Nana.

Abigail Adams, one tough broad.

President Washington.

Paul Revere's House.

I waited on line for 2 hours to get a lobster roll at Neptune Oyster.  Lobster, the most famous New England food. Neptune Oyster, the best place for a Lobster Roll in Boston.  I don't like lobster. Weird.  I thought if I ate it in the right place and the right way, I'd like it.  Nope. I like butter, but not lobster.  Oh well, I waited on line for 2 hours, and gave it a chance.

Grandad is really good at playing cars.

Pool time at Rachel's.

Bunker Hill, it is many steps to the top, but it was worth it.
I had a conference in Boston, and Melissa didn't want to sit in a hotel with the kids while I was in classes all day.  So I went to Boston and she and the kids went to Nana's and visited lots of other family too.  Boston was awesome, I'd definitely go back.

But being home with Melissa and the twins is better.  Well, being with them is better, we don't necessarily need to be at "home." Traveling is fun, too.

The before crepes picture.

After crepes

Hannah is wearing every "bow" she owns.  This little girl loves her bows and it makes Finn jealous sometimes.

Yeah, we are bad parents.  Our kids drink soda.  About once every other month or so.

Melissa is weird. Pool in the kitchen, filled with Rice Krispy's and cooking tools.  This ended with very happy kids and a very messy kitchen.

Pool party across the street.

Grandpa and Grandma Aurich came for the weekend of July 4th.  Specifically 6/30-7/4.
I'm worried that someday Hannah will walk away with a stranger, just because he has a book she'd like to read.

And Finn will follow anyone with an iPad.

The twins love their grandparents though.  They always have so much fun when family is around.  We're so glad to be able to see our loved ones as often as we do.
