October 2021, Trip to Nashville (Part 1)

With little kittens living in the garage it was time to make a permanent home for them. Melissa and I made this kitten condo. Eventually we'll cut a kitten door through the wall to the backyard.

Lilian on the balance bar at gymnastics.

Melissa and her new babies. Saying goodbye before we hit the road for 2 weeks to Nashville and back.

Pizza in Moriarty, NM as we start east.

On our drive through TX we tried to stop for a nice lunch in Groom, TX.  Everything was closed, so we played in a cold windy park, then ate random bits from our cooler.

We spent 3 nights in OK and started at Uncle Andrew's for dinner.  There were tornado warnings and and really heavy rain.  It was crazy as we drove to our Airbnb, such heavy rain.  We made it and it was nice to have 3 bedrooms.

The twins and I work up early, so we walked to the local grocery store. We ended up going every morning, it was fun to have a few minutes and a little exercise every morning.

October 11th we went to visit Melissa's uncle Marty and Cousin Kathy.  They live next door to each other in Adrmore, OK.  It was a long drive from OK city.  We had an amazing day.  Lunch and dinner, walking, zip lines, exploring, etc.  We had lots of fun.

October 12th we went to Martin Park Nature Center.

There was a river in the park, we saw turtles, a large deer, lots of birds, etc. After the park we ended up at another park just to play on the slides. We had a long conversation about church history and questions with a man who walked up to us because of out Utah license plate.  It ended up being nice conversation and a new experience for us.

We then had dinner with Sonja and Jordan.  The kids loved their house and had a blast with their kids.

October 13th at 4:45 AM our phones sounded a tornado alarm.  We got dressed, collected the kids and went to the bathroom (no exterior windows). We had a weird/fun 45 minutes in the bathroom with snacks and shows on the kindle.

Once the warning was done (because the tornado touched down to the east) we got ready and hit the road, leaving Oklahoma and heading to a night in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

We spent some time at the Little Rock Museum of Discovery.  It was great, after almost 2 hours we missed a lot of great stuff.  It was a really cool museum.

At our hotel that night we enjoyed some time all alone at the pool.

The next day we needed to drive to Nashville.  We got hungry just before Memphis, I found the Cozy Corner Restaurant on the map.  We pulled off the freeway and Melissa (driving) asked which way to turn, I looked up and saw this smoke pouring out of the building.  "Drive to that smoke!"  It was delicious and an awesome neighborhood joint.  I walked in to just grab the food then head to a park, but the kids decided to come in.  It was fun, in line were house painters, businessmen in suites, nurses and doctors and auto mechanics.  Everyone in the area seemed to know this was the best place to eat.  While making her way through a brisket sandwich Hannah looked up and declared, "this is the best cow ever!"  It really was, we still had a few hours to drive to reach Nashville, but this was an awesome stop.
