August 2025 Summer fun and we become a "sports family"

Aug 2 - Saturday trip to New Mexico!  The Farmington Temple open house was going on, so we decided to visit the Four Corners Monument.  After living within a couple hour for 13 years.  It was fine, I guess worth a stop, if you're in the area. 2/5 stars.  We had fun, but it was mostly just about being able to shop for the same 15 "hand crafted" Native American crafts in all 4 states within just a few steps.

The temple was beautiful, inside and out.  It was fun taking the kids to see another temple. They behaved themselves so well, I was worried we'd spend the tour shushing and blocking pestering, but they felt the spirit and listened and enjoyed. We then stopped at the Three Rivers Brewery for a late lunch and headed home.

Aug 5 - Finn joined the Blanding Rec Soccer league.  He played on the LA Galaxy and they had a perfect season.  It was a challenge for him to learn to listen to a coach and to exercise more than ever before, 2 games per week and 1-2 practices per week for 4 weeks.  We were all able to attend all of his games. His coach, Cheyna Palmer, did a great job of balancing kindness and coaching.

Aug 6 - Hannah took riding lessons this summer from Nikki and really enjoyed it.  She has gained a lot of confidence.

Aug 10 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MELISSA!

Aug 13 - End of summer vacation trip to the dino museum.

Aug 15 - Melissa invited a bunch of friends over for a BBQ and all the kids loved the dirt hill.  I don't think most families have a pile of dirt covered in garbage, so kids really enjoy the free play. *Humble brag*

Aug 16 - This year the kids decided to sell jam on the sidewalk.  They had fun and made enough to buy something that they've probably already forgotten or lost by now.

Aug 17 - Grandpa Workman's party!  Hmm... chocolate zucchini cake and Tillamook ice cream, something looks familiar about this!

Aug 18 - Summer is over and Hannah and I are going back to school!  Wait, I'm a grown up! Sorry Hannah, you're on your own!

No amount of Lego dinos can save you from the 4th Grade!

Aw... 2nd grade, back when they were still cute.

Melissa is crazy enough to try this homeschooling thing again!  1 more year of everything and nothing school.

First school activity was a scavenger hunt. Lemon juice and fire invisible ink

Puzzle messages and more led the kids to...

A board game about the National Parks.  4th graders get free passes to the national parks, so we're going to try to explore the parks.

Aug 21 - Melissa taught Hannah to crochet.  A blanket for a stuffed animal... this is how the obsession begins.

Aug 22 - Teddy Bear clinic.  Dad had to work in a different clinic, but the kids ran into some church friends and enjoyed getting new backpacks full of stuff!

Aug 24 - Not a lazy Sunday evening at all, very productive!

Aug 25 - How does erosion work?  Let's find out!

It was as bad as the beach, we were finding sand for a week.  But the kids really liked it.

Aug 28 - Martin Numbers put together parts from several basketball hoops and made this for the kids.

See what I was saying about "sports family?"

Aug 28 - Finn's last game of the soccer season, ended at Patio.

Aug 30 - Remember how in homeschool everything and nothing is school?  "Dad, why are there bubbles in the bread?" "Yeast farts." "What are you talking about?" "Let's go to the kitchen."  We combined random amounts of flour, yeast, and water.  Then let them rise while we went to the pool for the last time of the year.

Then folded in some chocolate chips and baked them.  Take a bite and find yummy homemade bread... and yeast farts!
