Greens, Construction, Visitors, a New House and Demolition... or The Middle of July 2013
Melissa expanded her garden this year into two plots. The original plot in the back yard grew
strawberries, peas, broccoli, lettuce and two carrots. We added a second plot
north of the house, outside our bedroom window. There Melissa grew tomatoes,
sunflowers, peppers, watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkins (which got infested by bugs and
died), cucumbers, potatoes, and green beans. It was wonderful to have fresh
picked produce with our meals almost every day from June through October. This
year's homemade salsa contained homegrown tomatoes, peppers and onions (from a
friend's garden).
During pharmacy school Andy often spent time working with his brother James at Ethereal Furnishings. He was just a shop hand for anything James needed help with, which often included cabinetry. Well, this summer all those weekends of grunt labor paid off as Andy got to make Melissa a birthday present. Together we made custom bookshelves and a window bench for the classroom.

Oops!! Always measure before buying appliances, or you may end up having to make some pretty major adjustments to completed kitchen cabinets.
A random picture Andy took of his pretty family.
Mom and Dad (Bayless) came to visit while on their way to a birthday party in Colorado (Josh's). We spent a day visiting one of our local Native American sites. The Five Kivas Pueblos. Mom and Dad made the hike down into the canyon and back up the other side and were rewarded with some time inside centuries old dwellings.
July 25th, 2013 we closed on our second house. I don't know why, but the second time around the signing was quick and easy, we went to the title place and had everything finished in about 15 minutes. We came home, took a couple of pictures, and promptly started dismantling the basement to prepare for the rental renovations (to be blogged soon).
A few days later I arrived at the hospital pharmacy to find a little present from our mortgage agent. I had a momentary feeling that I was being asked to a high school dance or something, then I read the balloons and saw the note. The people we worked with were awesome, they worked really hard to get everything finished before we left town for 2 weeks.
