Guess what else we did in October-November 2013?! Projects and Holidays, weird huh?
As in most things creative in our lives, Melissa is the driving force behind Halloween costumes. If left to me I would dress up as; A Pharmacist, A Sleepy Guy, or Andy most Halloweens. 2013 Melissa decided on Clark Kent and Lois Lane, and much to my relief she let me be Clark Kent.
We went to a friend's Halloween party a few days early. They really know how to bring people together and had at least 20 couple over for food and games. They even had a foosball tournament, and Melissa and I actually won one round.
On Halloween night Melissa helped run the ward Truck or Treat. She made a big batch of homemade chili, which we still have in the freezer. (Cooked from scratch, but it never made it onto the table as so many extra people prepared food). After the ward trunk or treat we passed out candy to the few kids who came by our house. Melissa's costume idea won me first place at Montezuma Creek Clinic that day, and for several days after people told me they missed my dark hair and suit. However, her students had no idea who she was.
By renting out the basement I lost my man cave. Melissa suggested I renovate the gun room to be the new entertainment room. So I tore out the blue carpet, pulled up the pad and staples and measured for laminate flooring.
Melissa's project was the powder room on the main floor. She painted the cabinets grey, painted the walls blue with white circles, and changed the light fixture and cabinet hardware.
The color is actually a little brighter, but Melissa's camera just couldn't capture it.
There's the new light, silver instead of brass (she let me help with the electrical).
Before putting in the laminate flooring I painted the walls in the gun room. Melissa let me pick the color all by myself, kind of. I choose "Native Dweller," not to pay respect to the Native American's in our area but because it is pretty much Army green and matches the gun crate which would soon take on the role of coffee table.
With all of the time we were spending in this room Zoe became more and more interested in it. She discovered the counter worked as a seat. She likes looking at our neighbor's back yard and their dog.
Melissa got a hair cut, not as short as I was expecting, but just as gorgeous as ever.
Melissa made this birthday board at a Relief Society craft Super Saturday. The birthdays of all our nieces and nephews in one convenient location. There is one more set of hearts in another color for our children... if they would hurry up and get here.
Thanksgiving 2013 was spent in Lindon and somebody kicked Zoe's ball into a tree.
But she got it out. She always LOVES going to see "the older people who love her." Zoe actually recognizes that phrase to mean we are going to drive to my mum and dad's house.
Adam, Melissa and I awaiting the feast!
Playing a game with my niece and nephew after dinner. My relationship with James' kids really developed during my divorce. I was spending a lot of time with his family to help me cope. Years later these kids still seem to connect with me pretty well, even though we only get to see each other every few months.
