Sunday March 9th, Church and Culture in England

On Sunday, March 9th, we went to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' Hyde Park Chapel. I learned that the building was built on a plot of land that had previously been bombed during World War II.  It is smack in the middle of tons of old buildings and museums.  I loved how diverse all the people were there.  One of the missionaries told me that all the people who attended that building came from 120 different countries.  Amazing!  This is also the chapel where Andy's mum and dad were married.

The foyer was turned into a visitor's center.

After church we decided to stay in the area and visit all of those free museums.  First on our list was the Victoria and Albert Museum.  In front of the museum I stopped to take a picture by a phone booth, but Andy didn't cut out the Frenchman who was also getting his picture taken.

I loved the Victoria and Albert Museum.  It had so many interesting old things!

Lovely spiral staircase to nowhere.

Knock, Knock...

This carving represented Christ's life from bottom up!

There were plenty of nude statues as well.

We had a little snack on the steps afterwards.  It was also a chance for me to rest my knee.

I also got a chance to take a picture with the phone booth by myself.

We then stopped by the National History Museum.  This museum was more geared toward kids.  There were tons of hands on activities and rocks to touch.

Medusa greeted us as we came in.

Then we took an escalator to the middle of the Earth.

Almost there.

Then we stopped by the Science Museum.  The thing that you can't see in these pictures is the fact that I took these pictures from a wheelchair.  Yes, my knee hurt that bad and my foot was starting to hurt because of the shoes I wore.  Too bad tennis shoes (trainers) don't look good with a skirt.  Anyways, the only way I could make it through another museum was if I could sit.

We only visited a couple floors of the museum.  We stopped by the airplanes.

Then we stopped by the medicine history floor because I'm married to the Medicine Man.  Here he is in a Pharmacy.

The blossoms were in bloom, so why not take a chance to sit and smell the flowers before our walk through Hyde Park.

There was this great monument to King Albert.  We saw a miniature of it in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

It was a beautiful, sunny day in Hyde Park!

Everyone else was out enjoying the sun as well.  Here are some girls enjoying the Princess Diana Memorial.  (Love the red hair in the sunlight!)

The ducks and swans were also enjoying the sun.  The Serpentine  was crowded with people on paddle boats, so I can't even imagine how much busier it will get during the summer.

I loved all the bushes and flowers.  It was truly a beautiful afternoon.

There were also some street performers that weren't really doing anything at the time.

We would have loved to stay longer, but we were off to dinner at Aunt Monica's house.  We had a lovely evening with her and her Polish lodger, John.  We loved getting to know them.
