May 2018 Part 2, here comes Lilian!

May 21, 2018: Our last couple's photo.  Lilian comes in less than 24 hours.

May 22, 2018 4:39 AM: Registering at Blue Mountain Hospital, last picture of Lilian on the inside. This whole natural conception stuff was new to us... and "skin to skin" was new to BMH.  Melissa wanted to hold Lilian, in the OR. She told Dr McCullough ahead of time and they promised to figure it out. She was the first one to do skin to skin in the OR at BMH.

I had a scheduled C-section for Lilian.  They only let moms do V-bacs if they had previously had a vaginal birth.  I was a bit nervous since I had a panic attack during the twins birth.  I prayed a lot that I wouldn't feel claustrophobic and have a panic attack and talked about it with my doctor.  We had to arrive early in the morning (4:30a.m.) to get me checked in and prepped. We went to the OR around 7 a.m. My surgery was supposed to last around 45 minutes. Riley Pugh, the anesthesiologist, decided to do a spinal block instead of a epidural so I would have a faster recovery. Andy and Riley stayed near my head throughout the whole procedure.  C-sections are definitely interesting because you can feel yourself being tugged on and such.  I felt like it was taking forever and I could here Dr. McCullough talking about what needed to be done.  He eventually called to have Dr. LaGiglia, a surgeon, come help because I had an excessive amount of scar tissue.  Well, 45 minutes had passed and I still hadn't had the baby yet.  I guess the scar tissue made the bladder stuck to my uterus and abdominal wall. Eventually they got Lilian out and I heard her cry almost immediately.  They did have wipe her off real quick before they passed her off to me.  When they laid her on my chest it was one of the most amazing feelings.  I didn't get that with the others since they were taken away quickly.  Holding Lilian with the help of Andy was a true blessing.  After a couple of minutes, I did have to hand her off because it was getting hard to breathe with her on my chest. The doctors then worked on sewing me back together.  That is when my spinal block started wearing off.  I was all of a sudden in extreme pain and could feel them fully sewing me.  Riley gave me meds through my IV to help, but it didn't fully block the pain.  When it would get worse again, he would give me more meds. Andy and Riley were also talking to me and trying to distract me. They were the reason I was able to stay so calm throughout the procedure.  The whole surgery lasted an hour longer than it was supposed to.  It was so hard, but I made it through without having a panic attack or feeling claustrophobic. I know that my prayers were answered and I feel blessed that it all worked out.  I was blessed with a surprise baby who has brought so much joy and completed our little family.

Lilian Glenda Bayless was born around 7:52 a.m. weighing 7.7 lbs and 20.4 inches long.
We named her Lilian after Andy's great grandma (Lilian Nash Abram) and Glenda after my grandma (Glenda Clift).

She also happened to be born on Grandma Joan Flick's 85th birthday. Grandma was actually driving through that day, so she got to meet her on their shared birthday.

Uncle Dale and his fiancée, Susan, were driving with her.

Nana and Granddad Bayless were staying at our house and Watching Finley and Hannah.  They brought them by to meet their new baby sister.

They did not really know what to think and definitely didn't want to hold her.

Scared new Papa.

The twins came to visit the next day and finally held their baby sister.  I think this picture speaks for them on how they felt.

We were able to take her home after 2 days in the hospital.

Grandad helped Andy at the rental some.

May 24; It was so great to have Lindsey and Jon helping out the first few days.

The laundry basket worked for 2 babies, and it did great with just one baby.

5/29/18: Andy even took the big kids to the Dinosaur Museum to give them some time without a new baby...

...because they still were not sure what to think about her.
