August 2024 Take your family to work day, Birthdays AND a TRIP WITHOUT KIDS!

8/2 It was finally time to change out the main street house.  We had the same renter since buying this house.  Melissa and the kids all came several days over a long weekend to turn it over.  Melissa probably put 5 hours into the living room vinyl flooring through the weekend. 

Finn and I had to build a support bracket for the window AC, because a plastic bucket full of rain water didn't seem like a long-term solution :)  

8/4 Bedtime is my favorite time of day.  Everyone snuggled around my wombat plushie, reading the Friend magazine before a song a prayers.  These moments tend to be my favorite interactions with the kids.  For months Finley requested "tell me a story when you were (insert age)," Hannah asks me to make up a short story. While Lilian asks deep and meaningful questions, in an attempt to stay up just a little later. 

8/5 Part of homeschool, as we prepare for our big European vacation, was for the kids to make maps of imaginary islands.  Pour out some beans, trace around them then fill in the shape with topography. 

8/7 Then a dance break to "The Greatest Showman" soundtrack, including training Goldie "the lion" to jump through a hoop. 

8/8 Melissa and the kids put up this branch in the dirt hill to accommodate a future slingshot, but Lily claimed it has her perch.  

8/10 HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  42 years old, why are you so old?!

We went for a UTV ride and short hike for Melissa's birthday. 

Then grandma had us over for dinner and cake. 

Usually we have our bday dinners on Sunday... 

8/11 But, this Sunday we were in Lindon.  Lily and Dani.  Amazing to think that Lily is now the big rocking chair cousin. 

Part of the birthday dinner group, enjoying 2 or 3 desserts... but who is counting?  Thanks Nana. 

8/12 Monday Grandad supervised piano practice. 

8/13 Melissa and I left the kids with Nana and Grandad to go to USU training in Logan.  We stopped for lunch at Cafe Sabor to start our week away.  

8/14 I was in meetings all day so Melissa caught up with an old friend Ashlee Page.  They spent the day driving her kids and their friends around for school shopping. 

8/14 After my meetings we went to the Logan temple. 

8/15 I had a strange schedule with AM classes then a break from 1-5, followed by bonding dinner and activity.  So we spent the afternoon together, including a walk along the Logan river.  Where I caught a snake, and gave it to Melissa.  Happy late birthday.

8/16 after a ridiculous several days of meetings, hopefully the last ever as I'm planning on leaving USU next semester, we came back to Lindon.  I guess the kids missed me.  

8/17 Love you Grandad and Nana!  Thanks for taking care of these stinkers.   Including their first night, when the power went out at 2 AM and all 3 kids woke up frightened/lost and Nana had to put them all in 1 bed to quiet them. 

8/18 And suddenly it was Grandpa's birthday!

8/19 Then the summer was over and it was first day of school... for the kids, Callie the cat, and a bunch of stuffies.  Homeschool is weird!

8/20 Two days into school and Finn found a little horny toad on the dirt hill. 

8/22 Melissa and the kids went to visit some of the residents at the nursing home and read them stories.  This is 

8/23 A bunch of friends gathered at Emily Laws house to raid her flower garden.  They all made arrangements, fun friend group. 


8/24 After months of Rob Lyman asking to use the shop and working together on projects in each others houses... I decided to take our relationship to the next step.  I'm presenting him with his own, key to the shop!

8/24 Homemade pretzels/Celtic knot decorations. Celtic to prepare for our time in Ireland.  Melissa was pretty creative with these homeschool trip prep lessons. 

8/24 Spending that afternoon riding around the field.  The twins both got chances driving the four wheeler with parents.   August was FUN.

We had a "CRATER" honeymoon than you!

We stayed in Midway, UT for the first 2 nights of our honeymoon. Around our little Swiss get away, were all of these little crater pond things. You can see our little cottage in the background of this picture. On Monday we went to the Crater at Homestead. The water is warm and very blue. Many people go scuba diving here, but we just swam around. Ok, so I didn't swim too much. I more of just floated around. They make you wear a life jacket, which meant I got to just relax. I was so relaxed that I even look dead in this picture. We had a nice woman in a wheelchair take a picture of us. She took a lot more than one. She kept telling us to do something different. My Engagement Story

In order to tell the story of our engagement, I will have to first tell you the story of our first date. For those of you who don't know, Andy and I were set up on a blind date by my Aunt Mary and Uncle Fred (more Mary). We met on August 27th when he picked me up for our date. Andy was well prepared for our first date. He planned on going up to canyon for a picnic and walking around the falls. He even had picked up some yummy sandwiches, but I didn't know about that then. Well, it happened to be raining that day, so he gave me the option of going to this authentic pizza place. I chose that plan since it was raining. We went to the pizza place where I ate pizza with corn on it for my first time. After dinner he started driving me back home, and then he noticed that it had stopped raining. We decided to try the canyon anyways. We went up to Canyon Glen and started walking the trail towards Bridal Veil Falls. For those of you who know me well, you know that I can easil...

July 2025 - Independence and Friends.

July 4 - Parade time!  The usual, candy, chats with neighbors and lots of fun.  After dinner that night, we went to the Melodrama with Rob and Mallory Lyman.  They came and spent the weekend of the 4th with us. It was fun to have friends over and talk, but the kids struggled with not having alone time.   Sunday July 6 - When we got home from church we couldn't find Goldie, but we found blood stains on the driveway and front steps.  After a few minutes she came to Melissa with a big wound in her front leg.  She'd been out while we were at church and someone shot her in the leg.  She must have been bothering other animals.  We got the bleeding stopped with styptic powder and pressure, then Melissa spent most of the afternoon snuggling her to keep her from licking it.  I took her to the vet the next day, they left the bullet/pellet in the leg and just gave her a week of antibiotics.
