July 2024 - Independence, Beach, Camping, Yikes.

7/1 Melissa and the kids started July with an activity days painting party.

7/2 The next night we began the Blanding Independence Day fun with the Melodrama.

7/4 We met Grandma and Grandpa for the parade and returned home with plenty of candy.

Melissa and her mom might make a tradition of going to the park without the kids to wander the booths and get a treat.

We spent the afternoon at Matt and Katrina Lyman's, invited by Rob and Mallory, for a BBQ and yard games.

7/6 We hit the road toward the beach.  We took a slightly different path and ended up in Buckeye, AZ.  It was ~110 degrees outside and even the pool water was hot.  That night we tried to walk across the road to get dinner, but it was so hot we only made it as far as a taco truck in the parking lot!

7/7 Sunday we checked in at South Carlsbad Beach and the kids went straight to the water!
Everyone had sand and salt rashes on their legs the next day.  We suggest they just play in the sand, the kids went down with their cousins and by the time we made it down she was in the water on a boogie board.  When I asked her why she was wet she replied, "When I see the ocean, I just have to get in!"

7/9 One of many sand castles built and quickly consumed by the waves.

Ava put Hannah's hair up most days.  These cousins are so much fun!  Always a blast to vacation with.

That evening we took Grandma and Grandpa to dinner for their anniversary.  They stayed at the timeshare, and even hosted us for dinner and a swim in the pool one night.

7/10 Wednesday morning Audra led this fearsome trio to hit the waves.

Grandma spent a couple of hours on the beach with all her family a couple of days.

7/11 Thursday was our day OFF the beach.  We went to Seaworld with Uncle Andrew and the Freys.

There were a couple of good shows.

And Hannah found her flamingos

While Melissa got as close to the Orca as possible.  Until the show started.  Then she headed up several rows while Finn and Lily stayed in the front rows with me to get wet.

7/12 Hotdog night at the biggest camp sites.

There were a few Clifts/Cheneys there.

7/13 Uncle Andrew's last hurrah at the beach.  He got stung by a sting ray so he and I spent the better part of the day up at the campsite soaking his foot in the hottest water he could handle.

We left the kids at the campsite for a quick walk down the beach that evening.  It was nice to have a few minutes alone during such a busy week. It is wonderful to spend so much time with family, but it takes a toll on our relationship as we spend so much time talking and planning each day with everyone else... we barely have a moment to speak to each other.

7/14 Sunday the 14th started home.  We ended up staying at the RV park near Great grandma Flick.  While we were at her house for a shower and dinner there was a massive hail storm, Lily is showing the marble size hail.

Of course we played games.

Including countless rounds of Uno for grandpa

7/16 Melissa decided to add a tunnel to the dirt hill by burying the old window wells.

7/26 Just a few days later, we went for an overnight camp on Blue Mountain with 4H.  It felt crazy to go camping again so soon, but it was really fun.  We got to spent time with the kids' friends from 4H.

7/27 Everyone had fun the next morning at Dry Wash Reservoir on kayaks.

Finn was a natural and went around the whole reservoir.

7/30 The gymnastics training in the summer only involved a few weeks of lessons, but the kids had fun.

7/31 Grandma took the kids out for a special evening and they all got ice cream.

It was a busy month, but everyone had fun!.
