January 2020, a new year and new experiences

I got a book for Christmas from Melissa with ideas for fun activities to do with the kids.  We decided to start the new year with making homemade ice cream.  Socks did a great job of keeping our fingers warm.

Lilian must have been asleep during the ice cream making, so she decided to freeze her fingers by eating snow a few days later.

Then our furnace died.  Seriously?  The fresh air intake fan broke into a bunch of pieces.  The house was in the 50's when we woke up and each time the furnace would try to kick on and this unbalanced fan would try to spin up... it sounded like a jack hammer outside.  I actually when outside first to find the source before realizing it was the furnace.  Well, we went to Walmart and bought several space heaters (a quick 4 hour trip) and ordered a replacement part online.  I was set to leave town in just a couple days and the part would arrive the day I left.  So Bill agreed to install it.

Bringing snow in the house, when we are moving space heaters from room to room?

Why is there water coming out from Melissa's cabinet?  We think that Lilian's constant running the water and "washing her hands" ended up splashing enough water back at the faucet that would run down between the faucet and sink bowl.  Finley helped me make sure all the sink and drain connections were tight.

Finley has trouble with his bowels.  Doesn't seem to know when he needs to poop/constipated since he was a couple weeks old.  Melissa decided we'd try to go dairy free for a couple weeks and see if that made any difference.  It didn't... but dairy free yogurt and cheese is expensive

I headed to Los Angeles for a couple days for an insulin pump training with Medtronic.  It was not a CE conference, but rather a corporate sponsored training. The education was excellent...  being a guest of a major medical company was pretty cool. Great hotel, travel and meals paid. Melissa sent me this page from the "Because I'm your daddy" book to remind me to think about the family once in a while... during my pampered trip.

Los Angeles temple as my view out the window, I ran down there before my conference the next day.  It was pretty cool to walk the grounds at sunrise all alone.

On the wall of the room. A reminder we were in the film capital of the world or just nightmare fuel?

My Medtronic rep Brian was in charge of scheduling transport for everybody.  The company he used brought an extra car the first day... so instead of the executive bus with everyone else, we road in this Mercedes S class limo. I have seen this car online in the car videos I love, but riding in it was pretty cool

The second day, when lots of the others were headed to the airport to go home... I had to wait one more day. Moab has 1 flight in and 1 flight out a day during the off season, so I couldn't fly until the next day at 6 AM.  So I walked from my hotel to the Santa Monica pier.  January in southern California is not bad at all.

I remembered that I had a family, so I had this lady make a custom sign for each kids, then went to an artisan chocolatier and bought Melissa a dozen chocolates.

Home again, the kids enjoying the blessing of having a teacher for a grandmother.  They just can't say no to reading.

Melissa was helping watch Braylee and McKenna for a couple days.  The kids did well together.

Nobody knows where Finn and dad are... but Mom seems pretty happy to have her girls out for a date.

Library time!

Saffrit's again. Lilian is helping take care of the baby.

She's also keeping the older kids in line.

It is Saturday in mid-January... time for the Bluff balloon festival.
