6/1/15 On the road to Chillingham Castle, via Derbyshire and the Snake Pass.

We are a couple of sleepyheads, so Uncle Brendan was gone already. So another set of see you soon pictures with Auntie Glyn in her PJs.

This giant was chained in a field so we stopped and introduced ourselves.

We then hit Matlock and found this awesome church.  The pastor was out, but the church was open.  We spent a couple hours wandering the building and the graveyard. It was a really cool place.

Tracy, posing at the graveyard gate.

The graveyard went on and on, it still seems to be in use today.  Newer markers were far up the hill behind the church.

Next door were these cute little houses.  The doors were probably about 5 feet tall.

Next stop, Bakewell.  Mon had mentioned this little town as the home of the famous Bakewell Pudding when we were making plans.  That had me baking the Bakewell, months before we visited. We stopped at a couple different bakeries for samples and purchases. After sampling the decision is... mine is better than either bakery.

Lunch in the car... Auntie Mon's leftovers!!  Yum.

Sarah told us about the Well Dressing.  We stopped in Ashford to see their wells (6 in this village, formerly used for the village water supply).  Everyone was too cold and tired to walk the path, so Andy went alone.  I saw all 6 wells, dressed with flowers, seeds, leaves and feathers.

And a minion made of corn!

We then headed for Snake Pass Inn, the drive was amazing.  Every turn revealed another spectacular view.

The pass was closed shortly after the inn, so it ended up just the 6 of us, a couple older Englishwomen, and the proprietors. We had a nice meal of bar food, left overs and candy, watched a little TV and headed for bed.  I fell right to sleep.  Melissa... not so much.  She didn't feel comfortable at all, she was nervous and scared.  She felt like someone was in the room with us.  Praying and turning the light on helped her to go to sleep. She slept all night and survived!
