6/3/2015 Bamburgh Castle and Edinburgh

On June 3rd, we left Chillingham Castle and didn't have to drive too far for our next destination.  Our next stop was Bamburgh Castle, which is also in Northumberland, England.

Andy had to take a look at a funky car...Citroen 2CV.

The best part about this castle was its' location.  It overlooked the Atlantic Ocean/North Sea.  We had to walk through some sandy trails, to get to it.

It had a great, big beach.

Too bad it wasn't warm enough to get rid of some of our layers.

Bob, Janell, myself, and Andy were the beach bums.

This was the day before our 4th anniversary.

Finally entering Bamburgh Castle.

Andy volunteered to be on lookout!

There are some purple fields in the distance.

Looking back on our sandy beach.

The courtyard.

Andy was glad that he didn't have to wear this 12 kilogram chain mail.

This armor looks just about my size!

Check out these chains!

Can I get one of these fireplaces in my house?

This horse is called Silver.  We became close.

Our tour is over, time to find our next castle.

Grandma and Tracy enjoyed the views.

I guess we will head off to our 4th country.  Welcome to Scotland!

I don't think anyone can jump over this border fence. Is it to keep the Scots out or the English out?

When we first arrived in Edinburgh, we stopped on a hillside park for lunch.  We actually had a trash bag full of all of our leftovers.  It was quite the assortment of food.  We must have been too hungry to get a picture.

We finally found a parking spot.  We then had to go on a little walk up to Edinburgh Castle.

It was quite a walk for Grandma, but she still did it.  She was such a trooper.

I wanted a picture with this bagpiper, but I felt slightly awkward about it.  I gave him some money and then stood a foot away from him.  Andy was trying to get me to move closer, but I didn't.  The bagpiper then stepped up right next to  me.  It was pretty funny.

We decided not to go into the castle, since we had already seen quite a few. We just enjoyed the views from outside the gate.

The castle has some great views of the city.  I don't think the couple behind us cared much about the view.

Grandma and Tracy enjoying the overlook.

Time to go shopping on the Royal Mile.

I tried to get Andy to buy this hat, but he said he wouldn't wear it.  I thought he looked like a handsome Scotsman!

Grandma and I fell in love with this door!

We then headed to our Inn, which was an old barn.
Bob and Tracy stayed in one old cow milking stall and Grandma and Janell in another.  We were supposed to stay in one as well, but the people from the previous night didn't want to leave yet.

We got to stay in an upper room, which is where the stable hands used to sleep.  Thankfully all of these places were converted into nice rooms.

Andy found a stud and named him Joe.

He liked carrots and cauliflower, but not broccoli. (We had leftover veggies that we had to get rid of.)
